David Lynch to open film studio in Łódź

By Katarzyna Grynienko
David Lynch confirmed his intention to create a film studio in Łódź at this year's Caimerimage Festival, with full details being presented the week ending December 11.
The studio will be a part of the EC1 project, an enormous and long awaited art/cultural establishment created on the grounds of an old factory. Lynch's "Sound Theater" is an important part of this project, a hope to put Łódź on the map of European production and post-production facilities movies.

The team responsible presented plans for a five-level studio complete with mixing room, post-production rooms and live music recording studios capable of holding a full symphonic orchestra. " The goal is very clear. Filmmakers can realize their movies in several different places, but we want them to come to EC1 and put sound as well as complete their whole post-production here," Lynch said.

The date of the EC1 project depends on the Łódź city government. There is still 40 mln PLN missing from the total budget of the investment, which is planned to launch by the end of January 2010. Last year, a bill was passed by the town council (www.uml.lodz.pl) stating that the city will give PLN6.5 million (€1.2 million) for this project in the first year and €700,000 in the second year.
