FNE at Connecting Cottbus: Cat in the Wall

By
COTTBUS: The production company Activist38, which produced the Bulgarian documentary Uncle Tony, are pitching their first fiction feature film Cat in the Wall at Connecting Cottbus on 9 November 2017.

The film, about a Bulgarian immigrant family living in public housing in London, uses the issue of displacement and economic migration to examine social and global problems. The main character is a single mother of a five-year-old boy, who takes in a stray cat. When the cat’s owners, a British family with problems of their own, show up to reclaim the cat and threaten the Bulgarians, tensions arise.

The main Bulgarian actors are already in place: Irina Atanasova, Angel Genov and five-year-old Orein Asenov. The DoP is Dimitar Kostov.

The directing/producing team of Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova are turning to feature film after making two documentaries. The film is coproduced by the UK company Glasshead with a budget of 375,000 EUR. The producers have 93,000 EUR in place and are expecting another 100,000 EUR to come in through their UK coproducer. The film is coproduced by Bulgarian National TV and received the ARTE International Relations Award at CineLink, as well as Creative Europe MEDIA development support. The filmmakers are looking for European coproducers, sales agents and distributors.
