GRANTS: Romania Announces First Grants of 2016

    BUCHAREST: The Romanian National Film Center has allotted approximately 6.8 m EUR / 30.5 m RON in its first session in 2016. Fifteen feature films including new projects by Radu Jude, Corneliu Porumboiu and Radu Muntean, received funding.

    Lemonade, the debut feature by Ioana Uricaru produced by Cristian Mungiu through Mobra Films surprisingly received the biggest grant, approximately 654,000 EUR / 2.95 m RON, followed by Corneliu Porumboiu's Gomera with 642,400 EUR / 2.9m RON and Radu Jude's Is This What You Were Born For? / Pentru asta te-ai nascut? with 524,500 EUR / 2.4 m RON.

    CNC also gave grants for three debut features, 12 short fiction films, seven long and short documentaries and seven long and short animated films, as well as 12 development grants. The grants were announced on 31 May 2016.
