FNE at Transilvania IFF 2019 Pitch Stop: Greek/Romanian Project Mignon

By

CLUJ-NAPOCA: The Greek/Romanian project Mignon by director Sofia Georgovassili, Greek producer Vasilis Chrysanthopoulos and Irina Malcea from Romania’s Luna Film was presented at the fifth edition of Transilvania Pitch Stop taking place at the Transilvania IFF, which concluded on 9 June 2019.

The time frame is a single day in 1997. Anna, a 15-year-old, wakes up to the sound of her parents fighting. She makes plans to go out with her best friend before meeting her mother at the shop Mignon. The two teenagers dare each other to shoplift and are caught by the security guards. During their interrogation, one of the guards begins to behave strangely, taking photos which he plans to use to blackmail the girls and their families. Anna’s mother, waiting to meet her daughter, hears her name being called. Anna now has to face her mother and her shame. The film was inspired by the true story of a noted shop in which the blackmail technique was used repeatedly.

The producers labeled the film as a psychological thriller set in the heady days of Greek consumerism, which led to subsequent economic consequences.

The producers have a fourth draft of the script and plan to shoot at the end of 2020, using a Romanian DoP. The budget is 900,000 EUR and the project is seeking a third country partner.
