Marta Prus, Torstein Parelius and Mila Turajlić are among the tutors of the last of three week-long Ex Oriente Film workshop sessions, which will take place in Prague from 9 to 15 March 2019, within the 8th edition of East Doc Platform.

BELGRADE: The well-known Serbian film director and screenwriter Dušan Makavejev has died at 86. Most of his innovative films made in Yugoslavia in the 60s-70s belong to the Black Wave movement, whose leader he was considered to be.

PODGORICA: According to the Film Centre of Montenegro, domestic films saw a substantial decline from 27,191 admissions and 100,897 EUR gross in 2017 to 996 admissions and 3,348 EUR gross in 2018. Two domestic films released in 2017 had more than 24,500 admissions.

PRAGUE: Beta Cinema sold the eight-part original drama series Wasteland / Pustina produced for the Czech branch of HBO Europe to Deutsche Telekom's Magenta TV.

RIGA: Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs, a Latvian/Polish animated film directed by Edmunds Jansons, was sold by New Europe Film Sales in France. The film will open in Latvia on 1 February 2019 and in Poland this autumn, distributed by The New Horizons Association.

ZAGREB: Ivona Juka will start shooting her sophomore feature in the autumn of 2019. Maslenica 93 will be the first Croatian feature to deal with the operation launched in January 1993 by the Croatian military offensive to get back territories in northern Dalmatia and Lika from Serb forces.

NICOSIA: The comedy Smuggling Hendrix by Marios Piperides is available on in-flight entertainment of Emirates. Since its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, this coproduction between Cyprus, Germany and Greece was selected for more than 25 festivals and received several awards.

18/01: Independent producers’ coordinator takes over European Audiovisual Observatory’s Advisory Committee Chair – EAO

The Advisory Committee of the European Audiovisual Observatory has a new Chair. Elena Lai, Secretary General of the European Coordination of Independent TV Producers (CEPI), has been elected to head up the Observatory’s Advisory Committee.

16/01: Italy takes over the Presidency of the European Audiovisual Observatory for 2019 - EAO

The Strasbourg-based Observatory, part of the Council of Europe, has been providing facts and figures on the film, television and video industries in Europe since 1992. Each January a different Observatory member country takes over the yearly rotating Presidency. In 2019 Italy took over the  the Presidency from France.
