VALLETTA: Acclaimed Bulgarian director Javor Gardev wrapped shooting on his new feature film Icaria in Malta. The film is a Russian production.

Organized in the frame of the 16th T-Mobile New Horizons International FF in Wrocław, the 7th New Horizons Studio's aimed to raise awareness of the importance of pitch in a film pre-production process and offers training in pitching to 24 participants from 10 countries all over Europe.

STRASBOURG: Funding for film increased dramatically in Latvia (192%), Macedonia (114%) and Croatia (100%) in 2010-2014, according to a report published by the European Audiovisual Observatory.

VALLETTA: Italian TV series Chiedilo al Mare produced for RAI and starring the popular actor Beppe Fiorello has been shot in Malta recently. The premiere is set for February 2017.

SOFIA: The Bulgarian minority coproduction King of the Belgians has been acquired by Be for Films. The film directed by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth landed a slot in the competitive section the Orizzonti of the 73rd Venice Film Festival, which will be held from 31 August to 10 September 2016.

MOTOVUN: Irish/Cuban coproduction Viva by Paddy Breathnach has won the Propeller of Motovun at the 19th Motovun Film Festival, which took place from 26 to 30 July 2016.

TARTU: The 11th Tartu Love Film Festival will screen 18 films related to love in Town Hall Square (Raekoja Plats), the biggest open air cinema in the Baltics, from 1 to 6 August 2016.

The second edition of KineDok organised by the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) is entering its second half, and so far there has been a great number of event-based screenings with film directors and interesting guests for Q&A's organised.

WARSAW: Bartosz M. Kowalski's Playground has been acquired by the Spain-based sales agent Latido Films.
