Polish film star Maja Komorowska will arrive in Tallinn to collect the Black Nights lifetime achievement award at the closing ceremony of the festival on Friday.

Maja Komorowska debuted as actress in the Kraków Grotesque Theatre in 1960 and has played countless roles in theatre and film since then. From 1972 she works as an actress in the Warsaw Contemporary Theatre and as a professor in the Warsaw Theatre Academy.

“This year’s edition of the Black Nights celebrates Polish cinema and filmmakers. With the lifetime achievement award we want to pay homage to Maja Komorowska, whose role in the Polish cinema is beyond describable,” says Tiina Lokk, the director of the Black Nights.

Maja Komorowska has cooperated with many well-known theatre directors like Erwin Axer, Maciej Englert and Helmut Kajzar and film directors like Krzysztof Kieslowski, Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Zanussi, who just attended the Black Nights Film Festival.

“Komorowska was a European star in the 1970s while acting in the films of Zanussi, one of the best known Polish directors. It is remarkable, that she is active in film, theatre and teaching even today,” adds Lokk.

Maja Komorowska was born on 23. December 1937 in Warsaw. She studied acting in Kraków.

The Black Nights lifetime achievement award will be presented at the closing ceremony of the film festival on 28th November in Nordea Concert Hall. Last year the award was given to the Hungarian director István Szabó.

Maja Komorowska will be attending the screening of “The Family Life” on 29th November at 16:00 in Coca-Cola Plaza.

The International Film Producers’ Association has designated Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival as a non-specialized competitive festival. Black Nights Film Festival is the 15th international film festival to be inducted to that category by FIAPF. The most influential film festival of the European North Eastern region takes place from 14th to 30th November.
