Successful pilots set a breakthrough year for Tallinn's industry

Three successful pilot events, the European Genre Forum, the Black Nights Digital Corner & Estonian Film Composer's showcase marked the breakthrough year for the Black Night's industry platform of Industry@Tallinn and Baltic Event film market.

The one week program attracted more than 350 professionals with now a fully fledged “market structure”. In line with the festival's new FIAPF category the industry events now include networking and panel events, music and post-production showcases, a “digital market” for regional film technology and media startups, as well as the co-production and project development workshops of Baltic Event with a slate of fresh business brought in by attending US and Asian majors.

The market's newest member, European Genre Forum Pilot, a creative camp for young genre professionals pitched 10 fresh projects in development to a full house of industry pros with France's ICKERMAN, Estonia's KARV (Hair) and Finland's WHITE POINT and BODOM attracting strongest interest from sales professionals. The event, organised in partnership with Black Nights, Fantastic Zagreb (Croatia), Night Visions (Finland) and Screen Division (France) is set for Berlin for its upcoming satellites in 2015 across Europe.

Later at the market, the Black Nights Digital Corner showcased the best of Nordic film and media startup tech with Estonia's Airborne presenting the first custom made drone to be able to fly Arri Alexa cameras, and Digital Sputnik its revolutionary led lighting systems set to be used on next season of TRUE DETECTIVE along with Estonia's leading post houses Orbital Vox & Herzog Studios.

With 46 regional projects and more than 300 meetings focusing on European co-production, producers workshop B'EST, screenwriters workshop POWR, Screenings and Works in Progress of region's latest works, the Baltic Event film and co-production market yet again balanced the Black Night's focus on linking Asian and North American territories with regional directorial and production talent. “We are extremely pleased to see many distribution and co-production deals established in Tallinn, as well as useful contacts made for the development of local and international film industries”, notices Marge Liiske, Managing Director of Baltic Event.

“Its  was amazing to witness this year that the festival's industry platform has stroke a perfect balance between the needs of the regional film community and the international industry and become a gateway for the winter's season’s biz in the region. European Genre Forum, Digital Corner and the Film Composer's showcase combined with a vibrant project market of Baltic Event have generated a right combination and attracting deals and productions to the region with three new international productions to be set for Estonia in the next 6 months” says Sten-Kristian Saluveer, Industry Director of Black Nights FF.

Industry @ Tallinn & Baltic Event will return in 2015.
