THE AWARDS OF THE 18TH MOTOVUN FILM FESTIVAL, JULY 29TH 2015

    MAIN JURY:

Petr Lom, director (Czech Republic / Canada)
    Mira Fornay, director (Slovakia)
    Tihana Lazović, actress (Croatia)

MAIN AWARD – THE PROPELLER OF MOTOVUN
    (for Best Film in Competition)

    WAKHAN FRONT
    dir. Clément Cogitore; France, Belgium

The jury has unanimously decided to award the Propeller of Motovun to a war film that avoids all stereotypes about war. Instead it speaks about it with magic and original cinematic language, telling the story of a French unit in Afghanistan, far from their families. A film about faith, belief and living in truth all the while questioning what is right and wrong.

    SPECIAL MENTION

To Gunnar Jónsson for Virgin Mountain
    dir. Dagur Kári, Iceland

Special mention goes to outstanding performance by Gunnar Jonsson for Fusi - creating extraordinary empathy and making us all aware of our loneliness.

    MOTOVUN SHORTS AWARD
    - The last year’s winner, director Martin Raith, decides on Best Short Film

    LIFE WITH HERMAN H. ROTT
dir. Chintis Lundgren; Estonia, Croatia, Denmark

    FIPRESCI JURY

    Mihai Fulger, Romania
    Josip Grozdanić, Croatia
    Dieter Wieczorek, France

    FIPRESCI Award

    Magical Girl
    dir. Carlos Vermut, Spain

This is the motivation of the FIPRESCI Jury: Using a set of psychologically and morally complex characters, the film suggests, in a surprising and subversive way, that good intentions could be a straight way to catastrophe and that the leading force of disaster is the lack of communication. And the winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Motovun Film Festival goes to MAGICAL GIRL by Carlos Vermut.
