The script written by Stefan Bošković tells the story of Hana, an introverted teenager secretly in love with Balša, a schoolmate and a lesser-known member of the "Street Self Defence" page, popular on social media. Through Hana's character, the audience will confront a complex emotional journey filled with hope, disappointments, sorrow, the struggle for oneself and one's beliefs, as well as the discovery of one's own strength, reads the synopsis from a press release issued by the Film Centre of Montenegro.
“I am extremely happy and grateful for the opportunity to work on a project that addresses self-confidence as an important ingredient of a dignified life in these challenging times, especially as it belongs to the genre of films that promote the empowerment of women's roles in society, and to collaborate with both young, emerging talents and established actors from Montenegro”, said director Srđan Vuletić in a statement.
The lead roles have been entrusted to high school students Maša Drašler, Savin Perišić, Lara Velimirović and Mara Rakčević. Montenegrin young actor Pavle Marković also has a leading role.
The film is produced by Ivan Đurović through Montenegro’s Artikulacija film in coproduction with Daniele Segre through Redibis film (Italy), Katarina Prpić through Izazov 365 (Croatia), Ishak Jaliman through Realstage (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Fatmir Spahiju through Buka production (Republic of Kosovo).
The Film Centre of Montenegro, the Ministry of Culture of Italy, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, the Sarajevo Film Foundation, and the Kosovo Cinematography Center are supporting the project.
Otter won the Eurimages Award at CineLink, as well as the Best Pitch Award at When East Meets West. Additionally, the project has been selected for the Cinéfondation programme Cannes L'Atelier .
The international crew includes Croatian DoP Filip Tot and editor Vlado Gojun, Montenegrin production designer Ognjen Smolović and costume designer Andrea Samardžić, as well as Slovenian makeup artist Nataša Sevnčikar.
