PRODUCTION: Four Female Directors Shoot First Polish Series from Netflix

    WARSAW: Olga Chajdas and Agnieszka Smoczyńska are joining Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik for the shooting of 1983, the first Polish Netflix series. The 8-episode series, which is currently shooting in Poland, is set in a world where the Iron Curtain never fell.

    Robert Więckiewicz was cast as a compromised investigator and Maciej Musiał as an idealistic law student. They are added to the cast which had already been announced: Michalina Olszańska, Andrzej Chyra, Zofia Wichłacz, Mirosław Zbrojewicz, Ewa Błaszczyk, Wojciech Kalarus, Edyta Olszówka and Agnieszka Żulewska.

    The show is created and written by Joshua Long, and it is produced by The Kennedy/Marshall Company and Poland’s The House Media Company. The executive producers are Frank Marshall (Jurrasic World, Jason Bourne) and Robert Zotnowski (House of Cards) from The Kennedy/Marshall Company, Andrzej Besztak from House Media, and also Joshua Long, Maciej Musiał and Agnieszka Holland.

    "Our story has several complicated layers: in it we can find adventure, crime and spy thriller with fascinating characters, who will keep the viewer looking at the screen - just like in every wonderful show from Netflix", Agnieszka Holland said in a statement.

    Shooting started in Warsaw on 16 January 2018 and is also set to take place in Wrocław, Lublin and Silesia.

    The premiere on Netflix is set for 2018.
