BRATISLAVA: One year after Velvet Terrorists, Ivan Ostrochovský returns to Berlinale (5-15 February 2015) with his debut feature Koza (www.kozamovie.com) nominated for the Best First Feature Award of the Forum section.
Together with Peter Kerekes and Pavol Pekarcik, Ivan Ostrochovský codirected and coproduced the documentary Velvet Terrorists (www.velvetterrorists.com) by Peter Kerekes, s.r.o., Partizan Film and Sentimentalfilm, which won the Tagesspiegel Readers Prize at Berlinale 2014. Ostrochovský also directed the short documentary Ilja (2010).
Koza/Goat tells the story of Peter "Koza" Baláž , a former Olympic boxer who steps back into the ring for money after learning about his whife’s pregnancy. The film features Peter Baláž, an Atlanta Olympic Games participant and Ján Franek, a Moscow Olympic Games participant, who plays the coach.
The film was produced by sentimentalfilm and endorfilm, in coproduction with Czech Television, RTVS and Punkchart Films. The project received a production grant of 216,170 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and 107,600 EUR/3 m CZK from the Czech Film Fund. It also received support from the MEDIA Programme and 10,000 EUR in services from Barrandov Film Studio at the 10th edition of Works in Progress Award, at the Karlovy Vary IFF.
"As Koza was a very specific project from the very beginning, we tried to find the most convenient production conditions for it. Shootingwas running for 70 days from 2010 to 2014. We had started pre-shooting already in 2010-2011, the main part of shooting took place in 2012-2013 and additional shooting was still running until the end of 2014”, the producer Marek Urban told FNE.
The total budget is 709,000 EUR, Urban told FNE. The date of the Slovak premiere is not yet known.
