BRATISLAVA: The Slovak Audiovisual Fund has issued the first certificate for film project registration for a cash rebate of 20% for the Weinstein Company’s TV series Marco Polo Season 2.  The Slovak company applying for registration is local production service company Spectral.

Around a quarter of the total shooting days will be shot in Slovak locations including the High Tatras and other locations in the central Slovakia in August and September of this year. The expected amount of qualifying production spending in Slovakia is 2.2m EUR, the total draft budget of Marco Polo season 2 is 60m EUR.

Martin Šmatlák, director of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund told FNE: "I am glad that as the first registered project we have a production with a serious and well-known background represented by The Weinstein Company, with wide distribution potential. After this first experience with our support programme we will able to discuss and eventually modify the conditions of the programme to attract more productions to Slovakia. Our main benefits are the flexibility of the system, financial background, and the three year period for production spending in Slovakia. The financial threshold for the cash rebate application is 2m EUR of qualifying production spending in Slovakia."

Production of the film will be handled by an international film crew of around 300 members including British director Sean Cameron Guest. The main role will be played by Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy. The Weinstein Company has produced such films as  King´s Speech and The Artist.
