PORTOROZ: Mother / Mama, the fourth feature film by writer/director Vlado Škafar, will be screened in the competition of the 19th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (13-18 September 2016). This Slovenian/Italian/Bosnian coproduction is inspired by the writings of Marcel Proust.
A mother takes her daughter to a foreign country and locks her in a house in a remote village. What begins as the mother’s attempt to save her selfdestructive child, turns into an increasingly miraculous spiritual adventure, restoring the life within herself.
The film was produced by Frenk Celarc through Gustav film, in coproduction with Igor Prinčič through Transmedia, SCCA/Pro.Ba and Arch Production. Amra Bakšić Čamo and Boris Perić joined as associate producers. The budget is 774,000 EUR with a share of 72.53% provided by Slovenian and 27.47% by Italian production companies, executive producer Petra Vidmar from Gustav film told FNE.
The project was supported by the Slovenian Film Center (with 390,000 EUR), Eurimages (110,000 EUR), MIBAC (84,000 EUR), FS Viba (91,263 EUR), Fondo Regionale per l’Audiovisivo del Friuli Venezia Giulia (48,000 EUR), FVG Film Commission (18,000 EUR) and Italian TAX office credit.
Mother premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival in February 2016 and will be released in Slovenia by Art Kino Mreža in September 2016, shortly after the Slovenian Film Festival.
