1st Animation Conference in Tbilisi, Georgia - Anima Tbilisi “Art of animation yesterday and today”

    The first international animation conference - Anima Tbilisi 2021 – was held in Georgia on 13th and 14th of November as the initiative of the Georgian Animators Association SaqAnima.

    The conference was dedicated to the key themes of contemporary animation and offered animators, producers, directors, sponsors or TV editors working in different countries the opportunity to find potential partners, establish appropriate connections and share their experiences with the audience.

    Within the framework of the event, Georgian animators had the opportunity to get acquainted with the representatives of the international animation industry and took part in workshops held by the best specialists in the field.

    Participants from different countries of the world have receive detailed information about Georgian animation, get acquainted with the works of Georgian animators and had the opportunity to meet them in person.

    The conference has included panel discussions, screenings of Georgian animated films and master classes.

    SaqAnima, together with partners, have organized animation project pitching VII workshop “Annecy Georgia” in Tbilisi from November 8th to 12th.  Producers Olivier Catherin (France) and Mariam Kandelaki (Georgia)  has conducted a 5-day workshop for the authors of 6 selected projects. In the frame of AnimaTbilisi conference the winners of the workshop have been announced, one best animation project  “Reflection “ by Ana Markozasvhili (Georgia)  was selected by the experts and received MIFA accreditation of Annecy Festival for June 2022. Also one best project The Last Feeder by Fira Baghirova and Leyli Salayeva (Azerbaijan) received NEF Animation prize, one-month residency at Fontevraud for the year 2022.

    The aim of the conference is to present and establish Georgia on the map of international animation, to show the potential of Georgian animators and to give them access to the international industry field.

    Anima Tbilisi 2021 has created a platform for Georgian animators, which will provide an opportunity to establish international contacts, deepen knowledge and strengthen professional skills. Given the risks and possible limitations associated with Covid-19, the conference was held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend the conference both physically and virtually.
