LJUBLJANA: Awakenings / Prebujanja, Peter Bratuša’s drama about midlife crisis with Slovenian actress Katarina Čas, has completed shooting and is moving into postproduction.

LJUBLJANA: The teen comedy Let Him Be a Basketball Player / Košarkar naj bo by Boris Petkovič is finishing postproduction. The film is based on a well-known book of the same title by Primož Suhadolčan, who also wrote the screenplay.

LJUBLJANA: Petra Vidmar, producer at the Slovenian production company Gustav Film, will attend this year's Cannes Film Festival as a part of Producers on the Move initiative organised by the EFP.

LJUBLJANA: Acclaimed Slovenian director Hanna Slak has finished her third feature film The Miner / Rudar. Shooting took place in November - December 2016 and the premiere is scheduled for Autumn 2017.

LJUBLJANA: The first Slovenian romantic comedy Vesna (1953) by František Čap, has been turned into a musical that will premiere at Ljubljana's Križanke open-air theatre in June 2017.

In 2016 Slovenia’s film production remained stable, but the audience’s interest in domestic films increased. There were no major changes in the distribution and exhibition sectors, and the number of completed domestic feature films generally remained the same.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian 2016 box office is up by around five percent thanks to the domestic hit At Hostar by Luka Marčetić, which scored over 180,000 admissions last year.

LJUBLJANA: A Good Wife / Dobra žena, a full length feature debut by the acclaimed Serbian actress Mirjana Karanović, took the Kingfisher Award at the 27th edition of the Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe) on 19 November 2016.

LJUBLJANA: The indie Slovenian comedy At Hostar / Pr’ Hostar by Luka Marčetić continued to dominate the Slovenian box office and attendance for the second week with almost 90,000 admissions. That means that it will likely become 2016’s top title, because no film released this year has reached 100,000 admissions.

LJUBLJANA: The Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Nataša Bučar to the position of director of Slovenian Film Center (SFC) for the next five years. Bučar will assume the position on 1 December 2016.
