Child's Pose Wins UCIN Trophy

    BUCHAREST: Călin Peter Netzer's Child's Pose (Parada Film) was awarded Best Film of 2013 by the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) and the Romanian Film Critics Association on 5 May 2014.

    The UCIN gala hosted by Cinema Studio included the announcement of the awards of the Romanian Film Critics Association, which is part of UCIN. The Romanian Film Critics Association gave three of its prizes to Child's Pose: Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress (Luminiţa Gheorghiu), and it awarded Victor Rebengiuc Best Actor for Japanese Dog/Câinele japonez (Libra Film), but UCIN spread its awards to a variety of films.

    Adrian Sitaru and Anca Damian were awarded Best Director ex-aequo respectively for Domestic (Proof Film and unafilm), and for A Very Unsettled Summer/O vară foarte instabilă (Aparte Film, Maur Film, Film i Väst, Filmgate, Faction North, Abis Studio, and Sharf Studio).

    Domestic was also awarded Best Script, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction. A Very Unsettled Summer was also awarded Best Editing and Best Soundtrack.

    Rocker, by Marian Crişan (Mandragora, Slot Machine and Departure Films), was awarded Best Supporting Actor (Alin State), Best Costumes, and Best Sound. Valeria Secia was awarded Best Supporting Actress for Vali Hotea's Roxanne (HiFilm Productions). The independent features Déjà vu by Dan Chişu (DaKINO Production, Watch Me Production and with Diud Film) and Killing Time by Florin Piersic, Jr. (Kinosseur Productions) were awarded Best Actress (Ioana Flora), respectively Best Actor (Cristian Ioan Gutău) and Best Experimental Film.

    Other prizes awarded by UCIN are: Best Documentary - The Tănase Business/Afacerea Tănase by Ionuţ Teianu (Libra Film), Best Fiction Short Film - The Cement Mixer/Betoniera by Liviu Săndulescu (Mandragora), Best Animated Film: The Power of the 10 Months/Puterea celor 10 luni by Adrian Băluţă, Best Producer: Gabi Antal from Abis Studio, Opera Prima Award: Love Building by Iulia Rugină (Actorie De Film) and Japanese Dog/Câinele japonez by Tudor Cristian Jurgiu.

    UCIN gave also three Academic Awards to actress Luminiţa Gheorghiu for Child's Pose and I'am an Old Communist Hag/Sunt o babă comunistă, filmmaker Dan Piţa (for contribution to the Romanian cinema), and Prof.Univ.Dr. Manuela Cernat (for her contribution to film history and for her academic career). Silvia Kerim, Bujor T. Rîpeanu, Eusebiu Ştefănescu, Victoria Marinescu and Gheorghe Dinu received Excellency Awards.

    Klaus Eder, who was present at the event, was made an Honorary Member of UCIN and received the UCIN Trophy for his contribution to the promotion of Romanian cinema abroad. The Film Critics Association awarded film critics Irina Trocan, Dominique Nasta, Marina Roman and Ion Bucheru.
