FNE at TIFF 2014: Stockholm wins Transilvania Trophy

    CLUJ-NAPOCA: Rodrigo Sorogoyen's feature Stockholm was the big winner of the 13th edition of Transilvania IFF, which wrapped on 8 June 2014.

    The Spanish director received the Transilvania Trophy in the amount of 15,000 EUR from Debra Winger who also received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the festival.

    "I am superstitious, I cannot accept a Lifetime Achievement Award so I will call it Save The Big Screen Award in the honour of your initiative, and I hope that you will succeed in saving the big screen in Romania," said Debra Winger said, referring to the initiative of Romanian Film Promotion, the organiser of TIFF, who launched the campaign Save the Big Screen aiming to renovate old cinemas.

    The festival opened new chapters this year, launching Transilvania Pitch Stop allowing young Romanian filmmakers to present their features projects to Romanian and international producers while awarding 7,000 EUR, and Transilvania Film Festival Fund which will support short films and documentaries from Transylvania and which awarded 9,000 EUR to three projects.

    The Competition jury awarded Best Director to Tomasz Wasilewski for Floating Skyscrapers/Plynące wieżowce (Poland). The film is produced by Alter Ego Pictures in coproduction with Superkrak, Studio Q, SoundPlace, Trailer & More SC, and Studio Produkcyjne SPOT and supported by the Polish Film Institute.

    Viktoria, by Maya Vitkova, a Bulgaria-Romanian coproduction, was awarded the Special Jury Prize. The film is produced by Viktoria Films and Mandragora. Stockholm was also awarded Best Performance Award for Javier Pereira and Aura Garrido. Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Romanian actor Florin Zamfirescu received the Excellence Award.

    The experimental documentary by Corneliu Porumboiu The second game/Al doilea joc (42Km Film) was awarded Best Feature in the Romanian Days, and Dying from a Wound of Love/ Să mori de dragoste rănită by Iulia Rugină (www.actoriedefilm.ro) received the Romanian Days Award for Best Short Film.

    The Excellence Award: Florin Zamfirescu

    Lifetime Achievement Award: Krzysztof Zanussi

    Career Achievement Award: Debra Winger
