By comparison Răzvan Săvescu’s debut feature, the comedy Here We Come!/America,venim! (Libra Film) racked up 14,257 admissions and had 29,594 EUR/130,342 RON gross in its first weekend in 2014, more than Cristina Iacob’s youth comedy #Selfie (Zazu Film) the biggest hit of 2014, which sold 12,648 tickets and cashed in 47,184 EUR/207,814 RON in the first weekend.

The all time opening record was set by Călin Peter Netzer’s Child’s Pose (Parada Film) in March 2013. The winner of Berlinale's Golden Bear sold 19,729 tickets on opening weekend.

Domestic films awarded in festivals are more appealing for the local audience than a few years ago. Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (Mobra Films) had only 10,851 admissions in the first weekend in 2007 after winning Cannes' Palme d'Or.

Why Me?/De ce eu? was released by Transilvania Film on more than 60 screens in over 25 towns. The film is based on the real story of a young prosecutor who committed suicide after being forced to cover up a corruption case in 2002. The release of the film was joined by a campaign aiming to encourage the fight against the pressure imposed by politicians, heads of institutions and magistrates.

Another film expected to be a success this spring is Radu Jude’s Aferim! (Hi Film, Klas Film, Endorfilm, Mulberry Development). The winner of Berlinale’s Silver Bear for Best Director will hit the local cinemas on 13 March 2015.
