CLUJ-NAPOCA: Ana Lungu's award-winning independent debut feature Self-portrait of a Dutiful Daughter / Autoportretul unei fete cuminţi will be screened in competition in the Romanian Days section of the Transilvania IFF (29 May-7 June 2015).

The film premiered at the Rotterdam IFF and recently won Best Film at Crossing Europe Linz and the Best Director and Audience Award at the Bucharest International Film Festival.

Self-portrait of a Dutiful Daughter was produced by Anca Puiu through Mandragora with the participation of Papillon Film, Castel Film and Cinelab România. Groupama Asigurări, BMW Group România, Vodafone Romania and HBO Romania supported the film.

The project participated in Works in Progress at Karlovy Vary IFF. The director used only two professional actors (Elena Popa and Emilian Oprea) for the main characters. The many improvised situations give the film a documentary style similar to Lungu’s experimentations with in the medium length film The Belly of the Whale/Burta balenei, directed jointly with Ana Szel, which was selected for the Filmmakers of the Present section of Locarno IFF in 2010.

Self-portrait of a Dutiful Daughter will be distributed in Romanian cinemas by Mandragora starting on 25 September 2015. It has already been sold to Brazil where it will be distributed by Supo Mungamat the beginning of 2016.
