Ida wins best movie at fifth edition of Festival Al Este de Lima in Peru

    Pawel Pawlikowski´s movie about the search of faith ran along eight other films on this peruvian festival that presents the latest on films from central and eastern europe. Jury Prize went to Mariya Saakyan´s “I´m going to change my name” (Aid es chem)

    LIMA.- Fifth edition of Festival “Al este de Lima” was celebrated between 7th and 17th of May in Lima and provinces, in theaters, auditoriums and outdoor screenings. In this edition nine films from Armenia, Georgia, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia and Serbia were in competition. Other films, documentaries and shorts from Romania, Denmark, France, Austria, Bulgaria and Spain were presented as well.

    The main attraction of this edition was the presence in Lima of screenwriter and selector of the Competition Program of Kustendorf Festival, Dunja Kusturica, along with Srdan Golubovic, one of the most acclaimed Serbian filmmakers, who presented his film "Circles" (Krugovi), winner of many prizes in festivals around the world.

    The winning feature of this edition was "Ida", by polish filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski, which has won awards for best film in Gijón, London and Warsaw. Pawlikowski received the award, made ​​by Peruvian sculptor Nani Cardenas, and greeted by a video from Warsaw. http://youtu.be/6Igt2gnpst4. The trophy was handed by the festival director David Duponchel to Jowita Mikolajczyk, representative of the Polish Embassy in Peru.

    Jury mention went to the Russian film "I´m going to change my name" (Aid is chem) by Armenian director Mariya Saakyan, which also thanked via webcam. http://youtu.be/czMErGvGlKA. Favourites of the jury were "My Dog Killer" and "Circles”. The jury of this fifth edition were Serbian screenwriter Dunja Kusturica, filmmaker Rosario Garcia Montero, movie critic Enrique Silva, photographer Billy Hare and movie actress Norka Ramírez.

    As part of Al este de Lima festival, was held for the first time in Peru the franchise 48 Hour Film Project, in which 30 professional and amateur teams competed making a short in just 48 hours. The winner was "Manolo el anormal" by Bonzo Films. This short will represent Peru in the Filmapalooza Festival in New Orleans and will compete with other 120 shorts from around the world to get a place in a special section of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France in 2015. The jury was formed by Dunja Kusturica, filmmaker Fabrizio Aguilar and photographer Cesar Fe.

    The public response has been overwhelming and has increased the number of visitors to the different screenings this year.

    This fifth edition of AL ESTE DE LIMA was possible thanks to the valuable contribution of PromPerú, Polish Embassy, Embassy of the Czech Republic, Embassy of Romania, Embassy of Austria, Embassy of Germany, EUNIC European Union National Institutes for Culture, Eurotrad, Infinito, PetroPerú, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Municipalidad de Lima, and other institutions and companies.
