Cinema City Opens First 4DX Cinema in Romania

    BUCHAREST: Cinema City Romania, the first cinema operator in the Romania Cineworld Group and the second largest operator in Europe, opened a new multiplex in Bucharest with 14 screens including a 4DX cinema on 19 May 2015.

    The multiplex opened in the new mall Mega Mall is completely digitalised and has 2,366 seats. The 4D cinema has 128 seats and a top ticket price of 10 EUR. The investment in the multiplex is 6.5m EUR.

    The 4DX cinema provides the audience with the feeling of water, movement, wind, smell and lightning available with 2D and 3D movies. The first movie screened in 4DX is George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. The 4DX techonology was developed by the South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX, which is a part of the CJ Group.

    Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld Group, said in Bucharest that the result of opening new multiplexes in Romania was “a rise in the number of the tickets sold throughout the country, increasing year by year, which each new cinema, from 2m tickets in 2007 to 10m tickets in 2014.”

    Two other multiplexes are expected to open in Constanta and Timisoara by the end of 2015. Cinema City Romania also runs the only IMAX cinema in Romania.
