ZAGREB: The jury of the 17th Zagreb Film Festival awarded the Golden Pram for Best Feature Film to the Romanian/Serbian fictional autobiography Ivana the Terrible directed by Ivana Mladenović. The film previously won the Jury Award in Locarno and had a regional premiere at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

ZAGREB: The 17th Zagreb Film Festival will be held over the course of a record 11 days, from 7 to 17 November 2019. Around 100 films will be screened in 12 film programmes at eight locations in Zagreb and another 20 Croatian cities. For the first time in 10 years, the recently closed cinema Europa won’t be the central festival venue.

ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre has announced the first grants for minority coproduction, TV project and script development in 2019, as well as the fourth round of grants for international cooperation programmes.

ZAGREB: Rea Rajčić from Eclectica has been selected to participate in the 2020 Emerging Producers programme for documentary film producers, which kicks off at the 23rd edition of the Ji.hlava IDFF, taking place 24-29 October 2019. ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre has announced its first grants for production, script development and project development in 2019, as well as the third round of grants for international cooperation programmes.

DUBROVNIK: Croatia was added to the list of filming locations for the second season of Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy produced by the Amazon Studios, starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne in the lead roles. The first season of the acclaimed show was filmed in the Czech Republic, with additional shooting in Germany and the USA.

ZAGREB: Croatian helmer Zrinko Ogresta has started filming his eighth feature People Can’t Fly. The film is produced by Interfilm from Croatia and coproduced by Zillion film from Serbia.

ZAGREB: The year 2019 is proving to be exceptional for service productions in Croatia. The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finances reserved some 4 m EUR for cash rebates, but in the first nine months of 2019 alone, rebates for foreign productions have exceeded 10 m EUR, hitting an all-time record since the system was introduced in 2012.

DUBROVNIK: Murina, a debut feature by Croatian director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, has started filming on the Croatian coast. The film is produced by Croatia’s Antitalent and Brazil’s RT Features of Rodrigo Teixeira in coproduction with Sikelia Prods of Martin Scorsese and the local production company Spiritus Movens.

ZAGREB: War biopic The General directed by Antun Vrdoljak and produced by Kiklop film in coproduction with the Croatian Television had 28,383 admissions and 137,971 EUR gross in the first week of distribution in Croatia, Blitz film and video distribution has announced. It is one of the top five film openings since Croatian independence.
