VILNIUS: Four directors have teamed up on the feature film Lonely Valentin (Valentinas Vienas) which is completing postproduction in advance of a pan-European premiere on 8 February 2013.

VILNIUS: Lithuania is expecting to see a burst of activity in the process of cinema digitalisation. “The comming year, 2013, probably will be a match point in digitalisation of cinemas,” Forum Cinemas (www.forumcinemas.lt) project manager Gintaras Plytnikas said.

VILNIUS: Controversial director Emilis Velyvis is working on his new action-comedy-thriller Flight Redirected, the story of four friends turned first-time robbers, who get stranded in an Eastern Europe and have to find their way back, taking on smugglers, dirty cops and fantasies.

VILNIUS: Canadian director Christian Duguay is shooting the TV film Anna Karenina in Vilnius and surrounding locations. Principal photography started 25 October 2012 and will finish on 15 December.

VILNIUS: Lithuanian film director Kristina Buožytė‘s third film Vanishing Waves (Aurora), produced by Ieva Norviliene through her company Tremora (www.tremora.com) has been sold to the US, Australia, South Korea, Sweden, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

The Lithuanian Governmental Strategic Planning Committee has endorsed the idea of creating a big budget historical epic about the Battle of Grunwald entitled Zalgiris - the Day of Iron. The film is budgeted at around €5 million (17 million Litas).

The Lithuanian Ministry of Culture is boosting the state film funding budget by one-third in 2008, according to the Lithuanian Film Council. During 2007, the Culture Ministry considered about 100 film projects and decided to support 30 requests for film production and 17 requests for film distribution totaling 7 million litas (€2 million).

One of Lithuania's most promising young filmmakers, Giedre Beinoriute, has completed her new short feature, The Balcony, which is set for screening early next year.

Film studio Studija 2 is preparing for release two short features: Perl by director Laimantas Kairys and Intrigue of Reality directed by Justinas Lingys. Both films are produced by Arunas Stoskus and Kestutis Petrulis, who founded the independent Studija 2 in 2004.

Veteran Hollywood director Edward Zwick began shooting his new film Defiance in Lithuania last week. The film is budgeted at about $50 Million (€36.6 million).
