Cinematik gives opportunity to Slovak documentaries

One of two competitive sections at Cinematik called Cinematik.doc is designed for Slovak feature-length documentary films. Documentaries released between September 2011 and September 2012 will compete for the Film Europe Award. The winner will be chosen by international jury composed of young European filmmakers and film critics.

Pavol Barabáš enters the competition with his new documentary Tales of the Tatra Mountains Peaks (Príbehy tatranských štítov). It is devoted to discovering and climbing the peaks of the lowest mountains in the world. The film also follows the destinies of the first mountaineers whose names are connected with the peaks forever.

Desease of the Third Power (Nemoc tretej moci) by Zuzana Piussi opens a sensitive topic of Slovak judicial system and tries to find out if it still guarantees justice.

The Bells of Happiness (Zvonky šťastia) by Marek Šulík and Jana Bučka is a documentary with social undertone. It is about two Roma cousins who admire Karel Gott and Dara Rolins so they decide to send them DVD with Roma remix of their hit-single Zvonky šťastia.

The debut of Paula Sisková …I Don’t Think I Will Return (…Myslím, že sa nevrátim) was shot during the pilgrimage to Spanish Santiago de Compostela. It records a one-thousand-kilometer journey of four women which is full of joy, sorrow and suffering.
