The 33rd Istanbul Film Festival Has Begun

    Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) with the support of Akbank for the 10th time, the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival began on the evening of Friday 4 April, with an opening ceremony held at the Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center. The prominent names of Turkish cinema, celebrating its 100th year, were among the guests.

    The festival begins Saturday 5 April , there will be 16 days of cinema in Istanbul!

    Starting with its first screenings on Saturday, 5 April the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival will be taking place across 8 theatres – Beyoğlu Atlas, Beyoğlu Beyoğlu, Pera Museum, Istanbul Modern, Citylife City’s, Ortaköy Feriye and Kadıköy Rexx. Besides the more than 200 films in over 20 sections, the festival will give cinephiles an abundant two weeks full of panels with filmmakers, workshops, and master classes. In addition to the festival's official website, film.iksv.org, film lovers will also be able to access the films programme through the İKSV Mobil application. With the contributions of Vodafone Red, the İKSV Mobil app can be downloaded for free from the AppStore and Google Play. In addition to the festival’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, the festival news, interviews with the directors of competition films, photos, and a lot more information can also be found on the festival blog at istfilmfest.tumblr.com.

    Don't forget the panels and screenings that will be attended by directors and actors during the festival's first weekend! Being held in parallel to the “What a Pair” section dedicated to the 100th year of Turkish cinema, the first of the “What's Happening in Cinema in Turkey?” panel series “Fantasy and Horror in Turkish Cinema” will be held at Istanbul Modern on Saturday, 5 April at 16.00 and attended by director Can Evrenol and film critic Engin Ertan. The “What's the State of Our Political Cinema?” panel, with speaker directors Kazım Öz and Emin Alper will be held on Sunday, 6 April at Istanbul Modern. In addition to the panels, on Sunday, 6 April the screening of four films will be attended by their directors and cast. At Feriye at 13.30 the directors of Ningen, Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti; at Beyoğlu at 16.00 one of the directors of Bir Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu Filmi, Emre Akay; at Atlas at 19.00 the director Alexandros Avranas and actress Eleni Rossinou of Miss Violence; and at Feriye at 19.00 the director of Medeas,Andrea Pallaore will be meeting the audience for an introduction and afterwards Q&A sessions.
