7 films competing for the Grand Prix of CinEast film festival, Luxembourg

    The complete programme as well as the films in competition at the 7th edition of CinEast - the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg – have been published today. Held from 9 to 26 October 2014 in a dozen venues in Luxembourg and other towns, the CinEast film festival will present around 100 screenings of 56 features and about 40 short films from 18 post-communist countries, as well as many accompanying events.

    The films included in the official competition of CinEast 2014 are: Barbarians by Ivan Ikić, Land of Storms by Adám Császi, Life Feels Good by Maciej Pieprzyca, Quod Erat Demonstrandum by Andrei Gruzsniczki, The Tree by Sonja Prosenc, The Way Out by Petr Václav and Viktoria by Maya Vitkova. The International Jury is composed of: Sergei Loznitsa (Ukrainian director, president), Christophe Wagner (film director, Lux), Karolina Markiewicz (journalist and film critic, Poland-Lux), Claude Waringo (producer, Samsa Film, Lux) and Gintare Parulyte (actor, Lithuania-Lux). The Awards Ceremony will be held on 24 October.

    Among the more than 25 special guests attending CinEast 2014 are: Igor Cobileanski (Moldavian director, The Unsaved), Ulay (Dutch artist appearing in the documentary Project Cancer), Ivan Ikić (Serbian director, Barbarians), Aliette Armel (French literary critic), Helena Sujecka (Polish actor), Gábor Reisz (Hungarian director, For Some Inexplicable Reason), Nevio Marasović (Croatian director, Vis-a-Vis), Jiří Mádl (Czech director, To See The Sea), Pēteris Krilovs (Latvian director, Obliging Collaborators), Adis Djapo (Bosnian producer, With Mom) etc.

    Some of the films on the programme are related to the thematic cycle “So Far So Close”, which is also reflected in a large eponymous photography exhibition. Moreover, CinEast will present several musical events (Fanfara Transilvania&Balkan party, Rock (cine)concert by Kristen, Milcho Leviev Jazz Trio, Closing Event with Polonia Rocks, Zapaska and Inclusion), gastronomy evenings, special evenings, debates and a forum for film professionals, CinEast Pro, dedicated to exploring co-production possibilities between the film industry in Luxembourg and the represented countries.
