Five Estonian film producers will present their projects and seek international collaboration opportunities at one of the world’s largest documentary film festivals, CPH:DOX.

The Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival CPH:DOX takes place this year from 11 to 22 March. Following an open call organised by the Estonian Film Institute, five Estonian film producers will attend the festival to present their projects, explore co-production opportunities, and meet with international funders, festival representatives and sales agents. The Estonian Film Institute will also introduce Estonia’s film funding and co-production opportunities to international film professionals.

On the evening of 16 March, a networking event for the Baltic delegations will take place at the Embassy of Estonia in Copenhagen. The Estonian delegation includes producers Liis Nimik (Klara Films), Susanna Räim (F-Seitse), Katri Rannastu (WildKino), Johan Huimerind (Dokfilm) and Len Murusalu (ChronoLens).

According to Viola Salu, Head of Production at the Estonian Film Institute, CPH:DOX is one of the most important meeting points for documentary filmmakers and industry professionals.

“The programme designed for delegations offers producers a valuable opportunity to present projects in various stages of production, meet international colleagues and connect with potential partners,” says Salu. “Such meetings are often the first step towards future collaborations – an opportunity to share ideas, find partners and receive feedback from funders, festival representatives and sales agents. I very much hope this will lead to new and meaningful collaborations for Estonian producers and help our documentaries reach international audiences.”

One Estonian project has also been selected for the CPH:DOX Rough Cut programme, which presents five films currently in post-production to distributors, sales agents, and festival programmers. The documentary War on Women by director Maris Salumets, inspired by the filmmaker’s personal experience, begins when she discovers her mother’s allegiance to a far-right movement. Salumets then embarks on a global quest to expose an international network that is dismantling democracy and gender rights under the guise of "traditional family values".

The film is produced by Elina Litvinova, Monica Lazurean-Gorgan, Gregor Streiber and Maris Salumets. It is a co-production between Estonia, Romania and Germany and received support from Eurimages last summer. War on Women is expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.

“For us, the festival’s industry programme is an important opportunity to introduce the film to international festival programmers and potential partners. I will be meeting sales agents, funders as well as supporters who are already involved in the project,” says Maris Salumets. “Making an international documentary is a long and costly process, and every meaningful form of support helps move the film forward.”

CPH:DOX is one of Europe’s leading and the world’s largest documentary film festivals, presenting more than 200 films this year. The Estonian delegation first participated in the festival in 2025.
