m-appeal at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival

Once again m-appeal is proud to present some exceptional, extraordinary and enjoyable pearls of independent filmmaking at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Please join us on a journey trough this year's m-appeal line up - a journey in every sense of the word.

First stop, New York: NEW YORK MEMORIES (Rosa von Praunheim, Germany 2010), presented at Berlinale Panorama Dokumente.
Twenty years after his successful documentary SURVIVAL IN NEW YORK, Rosa returns to the city. He meets his former protagonists and goes on a discovery trip to find out what has become of "his" New York.

Next stop, La Barra: CRAB TRAP (Oscar Ruiz Navia, Colombia/France 2009), celebrating its European Premiere at Berlinale Forum, after having participated at the prestigious festivals of Toronto IFF and Havanna IFF.
Daniel arrives in the village of La Barra on Colombia's Pacific coast looking for a boat to leave the country. While waiting for a chance to get away, Daniel works for Cerebro, leader of the Afro-Colombian community, who is trying to adjust to the advent of Modernity.

And the journey continues with our latest acquisitions at the EFM:

Next stop, Argentinean countryside: THE LAST SUMMER OF THE BOYITA (Julia Solomonoff, Argentina/Spain/France 2009)
Going on holiday to the countryside with her father, curious Jorgelina meets Mario, who is working on his family's ranch. One day, she discovers a bloodstain on Mario's trousers. Jorgelina tries to understand, but Mario, ashamed and insecure, has no clue of why he's not like the other boys.

Next stop, Ljubliana: SLOVENIAN GIRL (Damjan Kozole, Slovenia/Germany/Croatia/Serbia 2009)
23-year-old Alexandra studies English language at the university in Ljubliana. Nobody knows that she runs personal ads under the nickname of "Slovenian Girl" and that prostitution is her secret source of income.

For our very last stop, where we will present our newest title, we invite our visitors to go on a quick side-trip to Salzgeber & Co Medien for a special market screening:

Last stop, Köln: SASHA (Dennis Todorović, Germany 2010)
Sasha, confronted with the everyday prejudice of his homophobic immigrant family, struggles with his urge to come out.

And those who like to celebrate with us might take a closer look at one of our other titles, which just gave us a good reason to do so:

LAST COWBOY STANDING (Zaida Bergroth, Finland/Germany 2009) won the Jussi Finnish Film Award in the two categories of the Best Script and the Best Sound Design!!
