Hungarian Film Week Announce Funding Problems

By Zsolt Gyenge

Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary (MMK - http://english.mmka.hu/) announced that "it doesn't have the financial possibilities to organize the Hungarian Film Week" due to a hold on all funding for film-related projects. MMK is asking the government to fund the event presenting the best of the national cinema, since Hungary will hold the presidency of the European Union next spring.

HFW is the biggest film festival in Hungary and it is the main place for the presentation to the public of the Hungarian films produced in the previous year. Its possible cancellation is seen as a serious problem. The announcement comes as a surprise, since the new festival management previously announced plans to make HFW an international festival, as reported in FNE
