Magyar Filmunio Closes

By FNE Staff

BUDAPEST: Magyar Filmunio (www.magyarfilmunio.hu), the Hungarian film promotion organisation established in 1992 by the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation (www.mmka.hu), will cease operations on 1 July 2011. The contract of Eva Vezer the long-time general manager of Filmunio concluded on 31 May.

She did not prolong her contract, as the situation of the company had been unstable and its future uncertain.

Filmunio had been the main promoter of Hungarian film at international festivals. Its duties will be most likely be taken over by the new Hungarian National Film Fund, lead by Agnes Havas and Andrew G. Vajna, Hungary's Film Commissioner. Industry insiders speculate that the new director of international film affairs will be Csaba Bereczki, who is now in charge of the Eurimages office and supervises the Media Desk in Hungary. The appointment of Bereczki has not been officially confirmed.
