LONDON: The London-based production company Film and Music Entertainment (F&ME) will partner on films with Georgian, Lithuanian and Slovak production companies in 2018.

Among the titles in its 2017/2018 slate of ten films is its next coproduction with Georgia’s 20 Steps, Nene co-written by Vladimer Katcharava.

Lithuania’s Tremora is on board for the Russian/Irish/French/Lithuanian coproduction Jumpman directed by Ivan I. Tverdovsky.

Production begins in March on a coproduction with Slovakia, The Disciple directed by Ivan Ostrochovský for Punkchart Films. The drama is set in a Catholic seminary in Communist Slovakia. Coproducers of the Slovak/Czech/Romanian/Irish film include Negativ and Libra Film Productions..

“We are in the business of producing what I would call world cinema,” said F&ME principal, Mike Downey, “and so working with our sister companies across Europe and the Caucasus, we have been able to put together a business model that maximises our international talent pool, provides a mutually beneficial two-way co-production street, and in doing so keeps costs manageable and money up on the screen. Insulation against the whims of our political masters has been the name of the game since the demise of a number of producer friendly tools in the last years.”
