Minority coproductions take hold in CEE

By FNE Staff

Facing the new reality of film funding, Central and East European producers are gradually easing their insistence that other territories take on a minority role in CEE national productions. Addressing the need to become true international partners, the Czech Film Center (www.filmcenter.cz) has invited regional film funders and producers to participate in a panel on supporting minority coproductions, taking place at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (www.kviff.com)

The panel discussion, Why Should Film Funds Support Minority Coproductions?, takes place Monday, July 5th at 12:00 at Press Conference Hall, Hotel Thermal. The Czech state fund has earmarked €1 million for minority coproductions for the first time this year.

The panel will consist of Přemysl Šoba (Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography), Peter Zawrel (Filmfond Wien, Austria), Christiane Sommer (Filmförderungsanstalt, Germany) and Robert Balinski (Polish Film Institute, Poland, www.pisf.pl) and will be moderated by producer Simone Baumann (LE Visionen, Germany).
