FNE at Astra Film Festival: Spartacus & Cassandra Wins Astra Film Festival

    SIBIU: Spartacus & Cassandra, a French film by Ioannis Nuguet, won Best Film at the 22nd Astra Film Festival 2015. The documentary festival wrapped on 11 October 2015 after a week full of films, panels and concerts.

    The festival screened films in the competition and thematic programmes, which together with the masterclasses and the debate sessions added up to 350 events.

    The jury of the Astra Film Festival 2015 was composed of John Appel, Manuela Cernat, Geza Csakvari, Roberto Cueto, Christine Dollhofer, Thierry Garrel, Cintia Gil, Virgiliu Mărgineanu, Vintilă Mihăilescu, Cristi Puiu, Tania Rakhmanova and Rene Wolf. The jury selected the winners from among 48 films in the four competitions of the festival: International, Central and Eastern Europe, Romanian and Student.

    Astra Film Fest hosted the 10th anniversary of Aristoteles Documentary Workshop, whose first editions took place in Sibiu. Twelve films made at the Aristoteles Workshop were screened in a special retrospective and several tutors and friends came to the celebration including John Appel, Thierry Garrel, Nino Kirtadze, André de Margerie and Tania Rakhmanova.

    Astra Film Fest 2015 took place under the High Patronage of the President of Romania. The festival is organized by Astra Film-Centre for Documentary Film and Visual Education, Department the National Museum ASTRA in Sibiu, and Astra Film Foundation. It is supported by the Sibiu Local Council, Romanian Ministry of Culture, National Film Center, European Union through Creative Europe-MEDIA. The festival was co-financed by the Sibiu Local Council and Sibiu City Hall, and also had a partnership with Lucian Blaga University.
