The Slovak government merged public broadcasters Slovak TV (www.stv.sk) and Slovak Radio as of 1 January 2011 in an effort to control financial difficulties at Slovak TV.
The Parliament's media committee now has to choose a general director for the new entity, currently under the management of acting director Miloslava Zemkov, Slovak Radio's former general director. The media committee is expected to take its next action on 17 January.
Slovak TV has faced financial difficulties for much of its existence, while Slovak Radio was able to become financially stable.
