FESTIVALS: FNE at Istanbul IFF: The Plane Tree

After several months of pre-production, The Plane Tree began filming on 17 July 2010 for a period of nine weeks.

{mosimage}The film is about the relationship between a grandmother and a grandson and the other family members that surround them. The melodrama is directed by noted female director Handan Ipekci, who received several awards with her second film Big Man, Little Love (Buyuk Adam Kucuk Ask) at festivals, including Best Film at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and Silver Pyramid at the Cairo Film Festival.

The Plane Tree was released on 18 March 2011 in Turkey. Within its first two weeks it had 1.3 million TL in box office. The cast includes popular actors Nurgul Yesilcay and Nejat Isler.

The film is produced by BKM (www.bkmonline.net) and Yeni Yapim Film. It was released by Acne Films in France, Germany and Netherland on 17 March 2011.
