TRIESTE: The 15th edition of When East Meets West closed on 22 January 2025 with the awards ceremony after four rich days of pitching sessions, works in progress, inspirational labs, and talks.

BERLIN: Golden Bear winner, Romanian director Radu Jude returns in Berlinale’s 2025 Competition with his new feature film Kontinental '25, while two debut films, Urška Djukić’s Slovenian/Italian/Croatian/Serbian Little Trouble Girls and Growing Down by Hungarian director Bálint Dániel Sós, have been selected for the Perspektives competition.

BERLIN: New titles by Želimir Žilnik and Vitaly Mansky, among others, have been selected for the Forum section at the upcoming 75th Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held 13 – 23 February 2025.

TALLINN: The Mongolian film Silent City Driver by Sengedorj Janchivdorj received the Grand Prix for Best Film at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), which was held 8 – 24 November 2024.

VENICE: Italian director Maura Delpero‘s visually stunning Vermiglio screens in the main competition of this year’s Venice film festival and it is a worthy entry into the Italian tradition of beautiful images that portray deep emotions.

VENICE: Slovak documentary maker Peter Kerekes’ new film Wishing On A Star screens in the Orizzonti Competition of the Venice Film Festival this year. His previous film, the docudrama 107 Mothers screened in Venice Orizzonti in 2012 and Kerekes remarked that having a Slovak film in Venice was perhaps becoming a regular occurrence.

VENICE: Chilean director Pablo Larrain’s third film in his trilogy about famous women, Maria screens in competition at the 81 Venice Film Festival. The film stars Angelina Jolie as the famous opera diva Maria Callas in the final week of her life in Paris.

VENICE: Film critics notoriously do not like musicals but for this Todd Philips musical Joker: Folie A Deux, which screens in the main competition at Venice Film Festival, they just may have to make an exception.
