PRAGUE: The new EDISON creative film centre will start operating in Prague on 1 June. The EDISON Filmhub is an initiative of the distribution and exhibition company Film Europe.

PRAGUE: Producer/writer/director David Ondricek has started filming Zatopek, a biopic of the legendary Czech athlete Emil Zatopek, winner of four Olympic medals. The film was originally planned for production in 2015, but delayed until it could get financing in place.

PRAGUE: Bohdan Sláma, known mainly for his wry comedies, is trying his talent on a different genre this time, namely a period film. Shadow Land / Krajina ve stínu is based on historical events after 1939 in a Czech border region of extremely dramatic fate. To achieve an authentic period atmosphere, Sláma is shooting the film in black and white.

PLZEN: Winter Flies / Všechno bude by Olmo Omerzu will screen in the 32nd edition of the Finále Plzeň Film Festival. The most important Czech national film festival, presenting contemporary domestic audiovisual production, runs from 11 to 16 April 2019. Winter Flies won the Czech Lion for Best Film (and 5 more) and the Czech Critics´ Award for the best direction.

PLZEN: Fugue / Útěk, a Polish/Czech/Swedish coproduction by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, will screen in the 32nd edition of the Finále Plzeň Film Festival. The most important Czech national film festival, presenting contemporary domestic audiovisual production, runs from 11 to 16 April 2019. Sales agent Alpha Violet sold the film to numerous territories, including Lithuania, China, Denmark and Canada.

PLZEN: I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians by Radu Jude will screen in the 32nd edition of the Finále Plzeň Film Festival. The most important Czech national film festival, presenting contemporary domestic audiovisual production, will run from 11 to 16 April 2019. This Czech minority coproduction won the Crystal Globe for best film at the 53rd Karlovy Vary IFF and was Romania’s bid for the Oscars.
