Taxidermy and fencing masters, charismatic political leaders, famous prisoners, the legendary recording studio, the pole vault champion Wladyslaw Kozakiewicz, and Warwick Thornton on the beach – our documentary section surprises, astonishes, inspires, leaves in awe. We guarantee that you’ll walk out of screenings with eyes wide open in amazement, sometimes with a smile, sometimes just wondering. Extremely strong competition this year!
Preparations of 24th Ji.hlava are in full swing! The packed programme will offer the first and the last film by Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, a film portrait of artist Marina Abramović as well as the best doc of Sundance - Epicentro by Hubert Sauper. Women will dominate the music doc section. And the Inspiration Forum will turn its gaze towards Africa, technology and ecology.
SKOPJE: Willow directed by Milcho Manchevski made it to the final selection of films competing for The European Film Awards, announced on 22 September 2020. A total of 38 films are in competition for the awards, which will be presented on 12 December.
BUCHAREST: Emanuel Pârvu is in postproduction with his sophomore feature Mikado / Marocco, which he shot when Romania eased the Covid restrictions, from 26 July to 23 August 2020. The main character of the film is played by Șerban Pavlu, who also stared in Pârvu's debut feature Meda or The Not So Bright Side of Things / Meda sau Partea nu prea fericită a lucrurilor (FamArt, 2017), which won the Hearts of Sarajevo for Best Director and Best Actor.

Although most of the screenings during 36th Warsaw Film Festival are intended for adult viewers, we don’t forget about our youngest audiences! The program of Family Cinema Weekend includes films that can’t really be found in multiplexes – films that are really smart, warm, thoughtful, that encourage spending time in a careful and productive manner, that encourage empathy, sensitivity and appreciation of true family values and friends. At the Festival we also create a very special space for the kids, thanks to which they learn to actively participate in the cultural life of their home city. Come join us!

This autumn, the seventh Riga International Film Festival will take place 15 – 25 October. One of the most important sections of the festival is the feature film competition. Eight distinct, innovative and artistically challenging films from the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries have been selected for the competition this year. Films could be submitted without genre restrictions.

The screenplay for the short fiction film by young director and scriptwriter Paula Skelin and producer Tina Tišljar, an Eclectica from Zagreb production, is one of the 12 projects selected by Nisi Masa to participate in the European Short Pitch 2020 workshop programme, of which the first will be held online at the end of September.

Festivals 18-09-2020Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will invest one euro from every film submission fee collected to combat intensive clear-cuts in Estonia. The platform created by the Estonian startup Single.Earth gives money to forest owners for switching from clear-cutting to alternative forest management methods.
