BUCHAREST: Romanian cinema operators have passed the half-way mark in the country’s transition to digitalization with 137 of Romania’s 205 screens already  digital by the end of 2012.

NICOSIA: Stavros Papageorghiou is in postproduction with Kypris - The Great Goddess of Cyprus, a 60 minute documentary offering an exploration of the worship of the goddess Aphrodite from an archeological, mythological, religious, art and tradition perspective. 

NICOSIA: Writer/director Stelana Kliris will begin shooting Committed a small budget romantic comedy and road movie on 24 May 2013. 

BUCHAREST: Mihai Ioan Kogălniceanu has been appointed acting director of the National Centre for Cinema, replacing outgoing director Eugen Şerbănescu.

BUCHAREST: We Are Here, the first crowd funding organised in Romania for eight major alternative events, tallied 6,732 EUR coming from 572 sponsors after a three week campaign.

BUDAPEST: The Hungarian Film Fund has given development grants of 47,747 EUR/14 m HUF to four feature films.

BUCHAREST: Stere Gulea (Moromeţii) is to direct an adaption of the critically praised Romanian bestseller Radacina de bucsau  by O. Nimigean, with Anca Puiu producing through Mandragora SRL. 

ZAGREB: Naked, Croatian writer/director Tiha Klara Gudac’s documentary about her grandfather’s detention 60 years ago will be completed in June 2013, with the premiere set for October 2013.

BUCHAREST: Iulia Rugină's first feature Love Building is the first Romanian film not produced by MediaPro Pictures that has been picked up for local distribution by MediaPro Distribution.

NICOSIA: Night of Silence by Reis Çelik (Turkey) won the Best Film Award and a prize of 6,000 EUR at the 11th annual international film festival Cyprus Film Days which wrapped on 28 April 2013 after 10 days of screenings.
