Acting laureats from Cannes and Oscar directors in programe of the 15 th IFF Bratislava

Films awarded at prestigious film festivals, remarkable and masterfully shot works, as well as impressive acting performances – the programme of the International Film Festival Bratislava will present all these. The 15th IFF Bratislava will take place from 6 to 12 November in pleasant ambiance of city cinemas.

The 15th International Film Festival Bratislava will offer its visitors a wide range of films, including fresh ones from the September IFF Venice and the IFF Toronto. High-quality programme and strong emotions will be brought by a section titled Panorama, which will present films by Oscar directors and acting laureates from the prestigious festival in Cannes.

A new film by the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, The Past, reveils unverbalised forepast secrets of a crumbling-away relationship of a French-Iranian marriage. For the role of Marie in this family drama, the French actress Bérénice Béjo (known from the film Artist) has earned the Best Actress Award at Cannes. The film is this year's Iranian candidate for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film and is a chance for Farhadi to get his second Oscar (the first was for Nader and Simin, A Separation).

This year's Cannes Best Actor Award went to the American actor Bruce Dern for the role of an aging man in Nebraska. The gentle black-and-white road movie telling a story of a father and his son was made by Alexander Payne, an Oscar director of the films Sideways and The Descendants.

The famous British director of Dangerous Liaisons, The Queen - Stephen Frears, captivated the spectators of this year's festival Venice by his new film Philomena, based on real story. The drama story of a mother searching for her entire life for her child, which she had to give for adoption, presents an excellent performance of the first lady of the British cinema, Judi Dench.

An impressive acting, literally at the verge of physical possibilities, was performed by Robert Redford in the film All is Lost by an Oscar nominated director J.C. Chandor. Redford, in a role of a lonely sailor, fights for his bare life in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

The section Panorama also comprises a modern romantic comedy Enough Said by the independent film director Nicole Holofcener, which was premiered at the Toronto festival in September. The director offers a pointed and vivid insight on relationships of the mid-aged divorced. This was the last film role starring James Gandolfini, known from the cult series The Sopranos.
