Croatia Introduces Proposed Incentives at Cannes

By FNE Staff

Croatia will promote its new incentive measures for investment in the country's audiovisual industry during the Cannes film festival. The incentives were featured in the objectives of the National Programme presented in February 2011 at the Croatian Chamber of Economy and Croatian Parliament.

Timeframe, procedures, criteria and conditions for the realisation of incentive measures are defined by the legal framework, which is expected to take effect in the near future.

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC, www.havc.hr), in collaboration with professional associations and the Ministry of Culture and coordinated by other ministries and state jurisdictions, set up the administrative framework for the implementation of the tax incentives. HAVC is overseeing the coordination and education of local companies, especially those preparing to invest in expansion or launching audiovisual activities.

During Cannes, HAVC will organise targeted meetings with potential producers and leading exponents of national film funds, the European Film Academy, financial consultants, and promoters of international relations. HAVC will highlight the history of international productions in Croatia, locations, natural and historical sights, and Croatia's professional and creative talent.

A lack of tax incentives was seen as hindering foreign interest in Croatia as a film and TV location. Information on the tas rebate is available at: http://www.havc.hr/filminincroatia_en.php?menu_id=14&sm_id=47&spn=1&filmx.
