Brabec film opens August 21

    F.A. Brabec's poetic film May has its world premiere in Prague on August 21.

    The big-budget historical adaptation of a 19th century lyric poem by Karel Hynek Mácha is distributed by Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz) and co-produced by Beltfilm (www.beltfilm.cz) and Czech Television (www.ceskatelevize.cz).

    Kristina Maixnerova from Bontonfilm said the budget was CZK 30 million (1.4 million Euros). The State fund for Support and Development of Czech Cinematography supported the movie with the grant of 150,000 Euros.

    The tragic love triangle tale stars iconic Czech actor Jan Triska, and Slovak actor Juraj Kukura. Sandra Lehnertova and Matej Stropnicky make their film debuts as the young lovers.

    The director´s previous credits include Kytice (The Bouquet), a similar film project which attracted more than 600,000 viewers in 2000 and received eight Czech Lion nominations.
