By FNE Staff

The 48th International Film Festival for Children and Youth opens in Zlin on June 1 and runs through June 8. The oldest children's film festival in the world, Zlin will present 10 world premieres among its extensive slate of 571 short, feature length, and animated films.

This year's festival highlights the Days of British Cinema, with 34 films screening in sections presenting a 100th anniversary tribute to David Lean, Free Cinema of the "Angry Young Men" era, and the Best of British Cinema 1940-1980's. Other special sections include a showcase of Anime, a spotlight on African films, a series of Israeli films, and films from Tim Burton.

The Zlin festival (www.zlinfest.cz) moves into a new multiplex in the town center, allowing for increased programming.
