Hungarian Filmunio Appoints New Director

By FNE Staff

BUDAPEST: Katalin Vajda has been named the new director of Hungary's Filmunio, the national organization that promotes Hungarian films internationally. She replaces Eva Vezer, who announced that she would not be renewing her contract.

Despite the news of Hungarian Filmunio's demise earlier this summer when the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation was shut down by the government, Filmunio has continued operations.

Filmunio is likely to be under the control of the Hungarian National Film Fund, the new governmental support body lead by CEO Agnes Havas and Film Commissioner Andrew G. Vajna. The new system of the Hungarian film industry is expected to start working at full speed after the Parliament enacts the new Film Law that would name the Hungarian National Film Fund as the main (or only) support of the film industry. The current Film Law still names the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation as the distributor of film grants, although it has been unable to fulfil its duties for the past year due to its insolvency.
