Delta takes FIPRESCI prize at Cannes

By FNE Staff

Hungarian director Kornel Mondruczo's Delta won the film critics' FIPRESCI award at the 61st Cannes film festival. The award was accepted by German co-producer Susanne Marian on behalf of Mondruczo, who had already departed Cannes.

The film, a family drama set on the Danube delta in Romania, had previously won the Golden Reel award at Hungarian Film Week.

Speaking of receiving the FIPRESCI prize, Mondruczo told the Hungaria News Agency MTI, "This is a very prestigious award. It gives me encouragement to continue working."

The film was produced by Hungary's ProtonCinema Ltd (www.protoncinema.hu), Germany's Essential Filmproduction, and Hungary's FilmPartners (www.filmpartners.hu). Berlin firm The Coproduction Office (www.thecopro.de) is handling world sales.
