Malta Raises Fees for Film Classification

By

VALETTA: The government of Malta has increased the fee of age-classification to 100 EUR for a film from the former fee of 50 EUR.

One week earlier the government announced that it was going to use the age classification fees for a creative trust fund, while it also announced that it was budgeting 500,000 for digitalisation of cinemas in Malta. At that time, it was noted that the film classification board no longer exists. No mention was made of doubling the film classification fees.

Malta media reported that government opposition politicians criticized the move as a hidden new tax on cinema exhibitors.
