Malta Sets June Switch to Digital TV

By FNE Staff

The island nation of Malta has announced the switch from analogue to digital TV broadcast effective as of 1 June 2011.

Local media reported that some 27,000 households will be affected. Malta already has 130,000 households which subscribe to cable services through two companies, GO and Melita.

Malta national broadcaster TVM will begin digital transmissions in February, making it the first local channel to broadcast digitally.

The early switchover complies with the European Union directive to complete the move by 2012.
