Malta TV Head Resigns

By FNE Staff
VALLETTA: The chairman of Malta's state broadcaster Public Broadcasting Service, Joseph Mizzi, has resigned. He handed in a letter of resignation earlier this week.

Mizzi's departure was linked to a video posted online which reportedly captured him drunk at a party after the Eurovision Song Contest.

According to local reports, Mizza claimed he was set up by someone looking to damage the station, and he said he was resigning in the best interests of the station. The post of Chairman is a government-appointed position.Mizzi had been in the post for 14 months.

Malta's Eurovision delegation issued a letter of support for Mizzi, saying, " At no time did his actions hinder Malta's credibility and he showed nothing but great integrity in every situation."

Accepting Mizzi's resignation, the Maltese Minister of Education thanked him for his service and said his departure would be a loss for PBS.
