Dark Polish Comedy has a Record Opening

    WARSAW: Weekend, a dark gangster comedy directed by Cezary Pazura, hit a new Polish record opening weekend with 275,000 admissions. The film is the directing debut of Pazura, a Polish star of film and TV.

    The director compared his film with the work U.S. director Tarantino. The lead roles are played by Paweł Małaszynski and Michał Lewandowski. The all star cast includes popular Polish actors Paweł Wilczak, Olaf Lubaszenko, Andrzej Andrzejewski and Małgorzata Socha.

    The film is produced by the director's company Cezar 10. The main co-producer is a Polish private broadcaster Polsat Television (www.polsat.pl). The shoot of the film took place between April and June 2010 in Wrocław. The budget of the production was 6.5 million PLN (€1,6 million) with 1 million PLN grant from the Polish Film Institute.( www.pisf.pl).
    275,000 is a record number for a Polish production opening, placing Weekend in the top 10 of best opening local films of the last decade. The Polish distributor of the film is ITI Cinema (www.iticinema.com.pl).
